The two gold medalists at the PyeongChang Winter Olympiad 2018

At the reception, a lion dance typical of the Spring Festival with a traditional Chinese flavor was performed. Adding to the celebratory mood was the presentation on the stage of Sandor Liu Shaolin and shaoang Liu, two brothers who had just recently won gold medals in the men’s 5,000m relay at PyeongChang Winter Olympiad 2018. To bring the event to a climax, His Excellency Mr. Duan Jielong, the Chinese ambassador to Hungary, delivered a speech, extending to everyone present best wishes for the Chinese New Year of the Dog.

Present on the occasion were also Prof. Dr. Rovó László, the newly elected Rector of the University of Szeged (SZTE), Dr. Fendler Judit, Chancellor of the same university. Escorted by the Hungarian and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged (SZTE CI), they had a meeting with the Chinese embassy and held a friendly and constructive conversation. Prof. Rovó László expressed his gratitude to Hanban (the governing body of Confucius Institutes) and the Chinese Embassy in Hungary for their staunch support of SZTE’s international programmes through the platform of Confucius Institute. He also reiterated his unversity’s policy and material support for SZTE CI’s sustained development featuring quality and efficiency. Mr. Duan showed his satisfaction with the achievements made in Sino-Hungarian cultural exchange and hoped that the University of Szeged would play a greater exemplary role in the Belt-Road framework at large and Sino-Hungarian exchanges in particular.
