Programs in October with SZTE Confucius Institute within the confines of the 19th Autumn Cultural Festival!
8 October (Wednesday) 16.00 – Rector’s Office, Atrium: Chinese knots.
Chinese knots existed from the Tang and Song dynasties, which were more than a thousand years ago, and still, it is quite popular in China. The most characteristic features of Chinese knots are: symmetrical, double braided and usually red colored knots. These are not only used as decorations, but also to wish good luck, prosperity and happiness.
12 October (Sunday) 17.30 – Új Zsinagóga Mártír Emlékcsarnok (Jósika street 10.): “Escape to Shanghai” - photo exhibition.
Opening speech delivered by Dr. Ujhelyi István, Chairman of SZTE Confucius Institute and representative of the European Parliament, about the life of the Jewish community living in Shanghai during the Second World War. The exhibition will be introduced by the director of Shanghai Historical Museum.
15 October (Wednesday) 17.30 – Rector’s Office, Room V.: Yu Zemin előadása.
Ye Zemin writer, literary translator. He has been living in Hungary for several decades, but he became well-known for translating the literary pieces of Kertész Imre into Chinese. At the beginning of the 90s, when he arrived to Hungary, first he looked up Szeged. He will give a lecture about his adventurous life, and also about his Hungarian literary translations into Chinese.
21 October (Tuesday) 17.00 – Rector’s Office, SZTE Confucius Institute: Chinese movie night.
We would like to show a new and exciting segment of China for our guests through short films about China. Our first film will be the Mad about English titled film, which is about the Chinese citizens who were eager to learn English before the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
29 October (Wednesday) 16.00 – Rector’s Office, Room V.: Chinese games – Mahjong night.
Mahjong is also called as Chinese domino, even if the rules are considered to be more of a kind of card game (Rummy). Till the beginning of the 20th century (to be more precise, until the fall of the Empire in 1912) this game was played only in the Emperors Palaces. After the fall of the Emperor it has spread all over the country and later it has conquered the world.
