The first meeting of the Advisory Board of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged was held on 18 March at Shanghai International Studies University.
Participants included István Ujhelyi, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament and President of the Advisory Board and Lívia Szentmártoni, Director of the Institute. On the Chinese side, the meeting was attended by Cao Deming Rector, Vice-president of the Advisory Board; Xu Baomei, Secretary General of SISU Confucius Institutes and the Chinese International Centre of Education; Zhang Xuemei, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged and Ge Qichao, Vice-Dean of SISU International Cultural Relations Institute.
All participants were welcomed by Rector Cao: he thanked the associates of the Institute for their excellent work at spreading Chinese language and culture and expressed his pleasure about the media coverage of the operation and events of the Institute. Mr Ujhelyi elaborated on the role of the Institute in Hungary and asked for the Rector’s kind cooperation in setting up a Hungarian department at their university. Chinese Director Zhang Xuemei reviewed the 2012 and 2013 budget plans of the Institute while Director Lívia Szentmártoni reported on the past educational and cultural events of 2012 (including their results) and those programmes yet to come in 2013.
During the meeting attendants discussed several potential educational and cultural cooperation opportunities the University of Szeged and the Shanghai International Studies University are planning to implement with the help of our Confucius Institute.
