The Confucius Institute organized the Chinese Bridge Competition with great success this year!

The Hungarian semi-final of the 13th Chinese Bridge Competition – University Student’s Language Competition took place on the 9th of May, organized on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary by the Confucius Institute at University of Szeged and the Kodolányi János College in Budapest.

The opening speech of the event was delivered by HE Ambassador Xiao Qian: His Excellency expressed his thanks to the organizers, emphasizing that letting more and more people to learn about their country and its culture is an important aim of China, which predominantly manifests itself in Chinese Language education.


Dr. Péter Szabó, the Rector of the Kodolányi János College, Dr. Sándor Kusai, former ambassador and ministerial commissioner, Dr. Lajos Oláh, the President of the Great Wall Hungarian-Chinese Friendship Association, and Li Xinhua, the head of the Office of Education at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary delivered a speech at the event as well.

Chinese-learning young people from all around the world come to participate in this multi-round competition to match their knowledge in three categories. In the semi-finals the contestants need to present a self-written essay, they need to answer questions regarding China to prove their literacy and need to show a performance of their own choice. Twenty university and college students competed their knowledge in the Hungarian semi-final, representing five higher education institutions. The most successul students won scholarships to attend the most famous Chinese universities and the possibility to travel to China during the summer to participate in the international final of the Chinese Bridge Competition, representing our motherland.
