Pop up Hungary – Introduction of University of Szeged and Confucius Institute in Xi’an and Yinchuan

Between 3 and 8 May, 2013, together with 13 other higher education institutions, both the University of Szeged and SZTE Confucius Institute participated in an event called Pop up Hungary organized by Balassi Institute and the Embassy of Hungary in Beijing, introducing Hungarian higher education on Xi’an and Yinchuan.

Educational programmes were presented at Xi’an International University and Peihua University. At the latter university, Jiang Bo, President of the University Advisory Board, also participated in the event, emphasizing the significance of it. At the exhibition more than 500 Chinese university students showed their interest in studying at the University of Szeged.


The next destination of the tour was the University of Ningxia in Yinchuan. This university aid special attention to welcoming the Hungarian delegation: an opening ceremony was held by the Vice-Rector of the university, Xie Yingzhong. More than 200 university students visited the stands of Hungarian higher education institutions.


On both locations, Chinese students were welcomed and informed by Szentmártoni Lívia, senior advisor on China affairs and at the same time director of SZTE Confucius Institute „equipped” by the informative, Chinese and English language brochures about the University of Szeged. Chinese students showed real interest for the „paprika – vitamin C story of our Nobel-prize awardee, Szent-Györgyi Albert. As a special treat, those interested could taste paprika-flavoured chocolate at our stand.



Pop Up Hungary



Apart from the exhibitions, the Embassy also organized receptions at both locations with the representatives of the given province and city, universities and student recruiting agencies. These connections and relationships will certainly be fruitful for the University of Szeged for future cooperation.
